How Do SMM Panels Work? A Simple Explanation

How SMM panels work, explained simply: providers, the SMM API, balances, order statuses, refills, drip-feed and how a panel owner makes money.

SMM panels sell social media services, such as followers, likes, views and comments, through a simple website. Behind that website is a chain of businesses connected by an API. Once you see how the pieces fit, it is easy to understand why SMM panels are such a popular online business, and what it takes to run one well.

The three parts of every SMM panel

1. The customer

A customer creates an account, adds funds to their balance (by card, crypto or a local payment method), and places an order: they choose a service, paste a link (a profile, post or video) and enter a quantity. The price is taken from their balance.

2. The panel

The panel is the website the customer sees, and the business behind it. It lists services with its own prices, takes payments, and passes every order on to a provider. A good panel also handles support, refills, cancellations and reports.

3. The provider

The provider is the business that actually delivers the service. Providers sell at wholesale prices through an API, and many panels can buy from the same provider. Some providers are themselves panels that resell other providers.

What happens when someone places an order

  1. The customer orders 1,000 followers for $3.
  2. The panel takes $3 from their balance and sends the order to its provider through the API.
  3. The provider charges the panel its wholesale rate, say $1.80, and starts delivering.
  4. The panel checks the order's status regularly and shows it to the customer: pending, in progress, completed, partial or canceled.
  5. The $1.20 difference is the panel's profit.

Everything after step 1 is automatic, which is why one person can run a panel that handles thousands of orders a day.

The SMM API

Almost every panel and provider speaks the same API, often called the standard SMM API. It has a handful of actions:

  • services: the list of services, with rates and limits
  • add: place an order
  • status: check one or many orders (status, start count, remains)
  • balance: how much money is left
  • refill and cancel: ask for a refill or a cancellation

Because the format is shared, a panel can connect to almost any provider, and other panels or bots can order from your panel in turn.

Important terms

  • Start count: how many followers or likes the link had when the order started, so the customer can see the growth.
  • Remains: how many are still to be delivered. A partial order is refunded for its remains.
  • Refill: some services promise to replace drops for a period (for example 30 days). Customers press a refill button, and the panel asks the provider to top the order up.
  • Drip-feed: an order split into smaller runs delivered over time, so growth looks natural.
  • Child panel: a ready-made panel a customer rents from your panel, which buys its services from you.

How an SMM panel makes money

A panel earns the difference between its price and the provider's rate on every order. On top of that, many panels earn from:

  • Child panels rented to customers each month
  • Resellers ordering through the panel's API in large volumes
  • Deposit bonuses that encourage bigger top-ups, which keeps money in the panel

The biggest risks are a provider raising its price without notice (you would sell at a loss), slow or failing providers, and chargebacks. Good panel software protects you: Eva Panel holds orders that would sell below cost, resends failed orders automatically, and keeps rates in sync with your providers.

Do you need to be technical to run one?

No. You need to pick reliable providers, price services sensibly, look after customers and promote your panel. The technical side (the website, hosting, security and the API connections) can be handled by a ready-made platform like Eva Panel, or by a script you host yourself. We compare the two in SMM panel script vs a ready-made panel.
